Dietitians understand how food and fluid affects the body and can use this knowledge to help you manage a range of health conditions. We use the latest scientific information to partner with you and develop a plan to meet your nutrition needs, by:

  • Assessing your nutrition status and diet
  • Providing you with personalised information and support to help you make changes to your food intake

How to find us:

We are located in the Prichard Wing (circled in red), which is separate from the main building and can be accessed via Chapel Street - Gate 9. Take the lift to level 2 for your appointment.

Some Dietitian appointments for multidisciplinary clinics are located in other areas of the hospital - please confirm appointment details ahead of time. This includes: renal supportive care, cancer care clinic, specialist pediatric clinics (feeding clinic, eating disorders), and pre-admission clinics.

Inpatients

We care for people in our hospital with the following conditions: 

  • Malnutrition or poor intake
  • Those requiring alternative feeding methods (e.g. enteral nutrition)
  • Kidney conditions 
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Cancer
  • Eating Disorders
  • Paediatric Nutrition

Your doctor or nurse will refer you to the dietitian during your inpatient stay if it is required. You can also request to see a dietitian if you have any concerns about your nutrition.

 

Outpatients

Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Clinic

Support for poor nutritional status and tube feeding.

General Clinic

Support for a variety of conditions including malnutrition, weight management, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Paediatric Clinic

Support for infants, children and adolescents, including: Failure to thrive, weight management, tube feeding, poor nutritional status fussy eating and gastrointestinal conditions.

Gastroenterology Clinic

Support for various gastrointestinal disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, motility disorders and patients post gastrointestinal surgery.

Services are available to residents within Georges River Council that meet referral criteria (please see 'referrals' tab). Alternatively, find a private or NDIS Accredited Practicing Dietitian in your area.

By Car
Paid parking: Gray Street Car Park (at hospital main entrance) Kingston Street Car Park, Belgrave Street Car Park. 
Free street parking is available around the campus and on nearby streets, times range between 15 minutes - 2 hours of free parking. Be sure to check street signs to avoid a fine. 

By Train
The nearest railway station to St George Hospital is Kogarah railway Station, on the Southern Line. It is a 15 minute walk down Belgrave Street from the railway to the hospital.

By Bus
The hospital is within walking distance of the Montgomery St Bus Stop of the Free Kogarah Shuttle Bus service http://www.sydneybuses.info/free-shuttles
The 446, 476 and 477 buses all pass by St George Hospital, use the Transport NSW website to plan your trip.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Referral letter if referred from your GP
  • Any recent blood tests and blood sugar record book if available/applicable
  • Medication list
  • You are welcome to bring a support person (a relative, friend or carer) with you to the appointment.

Referral Forms:

St George Hospital is the largest tertiary education hospital within the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. As such, our Dietitians and Dietitian Assistants are passionate about being involved in the upskilling and training of future Dietitians and Dietitian Assistants from both University and TAFE. Our Dietitians are actively involved in numerous quality improvement and research projects which highlight our passion for providing up-to-date, person centered care. 

Patients may be asked to be involved in research or for a Dietitian/Dietitian Assistant Student to be present during your dietetic assessments under the supervision of a Dietitian.
