Organ and Tissue Donation

Access to organ donation and transplantation is vital in the provision of quality health care in NSW – especially when it can mean the difference between life and death. One organ and tissue donor can transform the lives of 10 or more people.

The NSW Government is taking a proactive approach to organ and tissue donation to ensure all NSW patients have access to the best health outcomes.

We invite you to find out more about NSW’s plan to increase organ and tissue donation and transplantation and to help transform lives.

Developed in collaboration with Sydney University Save Sight Institute, and under the governance of the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service, the Australian Ocular Biobank will allow for the long term storage of a range of ocular tissue for research purposes from living and deceased donors.

The Australian Ocular Biobank will play a significant role in the understanding and treatment of various causes of eye disease and vision impairment in Australia, such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and eye conditions.

A first of its kind, the Biobank will serve as a resource for researchers in the discovery of new treatments and preventative strategies.
