Applied Safety and Quality in Healthcare Graduation

As part of SESLHD’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and collaborative learning, the Nursing and Midwifery Directorate are delighted to announce the graduation of 19 staff members who recently completed the 2023–24 SESLHD Applied Safety and Quality in Healthcare program (ASQHP) – Adept level.

This 12-month course supports and guides participants to lead a quality improvement project which focuses on patient safety aspects of care delivery.

During the Graduation ceremony, participants reflected on their experiences leading improvement in the workplace over the last 12 months.

“It's such a good feeling to have made it to the finish line. I've learnt so much over the past 12 months and can't wait to continue to learn more. Even with the challenges and time pressures, I've absolutely loved every minute of this course,” said Leanne Burns, Registered Nurse, St George Hospital Surgery/Operating Theatres.

Leanne graduated after completing a project titled ‘Dude, where’s my forceps?’ looking at reducing lost instruments in theatres.

Completing the Adept level of ASQHP may equate to up to 12 credit points across five universities for participants to continue their studies.  The Clinical Excellence Commission is a partner in this course.

“What a wonderful celebration it was. It is always a joy and a pleasure to support our colleagues who are passionate about quality and making a meaningful change,” said Kate Hackett, District Director of Nursing and Midwifery and executive sponsor of the program.
