CORE Awards coverage continued
Everyone has a story to tell. For that reason, we have been bringing you the stories of our CORE Awards winners, across social media and On the Pulse. You can watch a wrap-up of the Awards ceremony here.
Our winners may have different skillsets and achievements, but they are all dedicated to their colleagues and patients. Each winner has had a clear, measurable and unmistakable impact on the provision of healthcare in our District.
Our School Vaccination Team goes out of their way to ensure our young people are protected against infectious diseases and are equipped to lead healthy lives. They have won our Excellence in Preventative Healthcare Award. In 2023, they visited all 92 high schools in our District to administer 23,000 vaccines.
“We’re already seeing the impact of these vaccine programs,” says Dr Vicky Sheppeard, Director of the Public Health Unit. “We’ve seen a reduction in pre-cancerous lesions in women who have received the HPV vaccine, and we seem to have almost wiped out meningococcal disease in young adults.”
When it comes to sustainability, we know that the healthcare system is a significant emitter of waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Our winners of the Excellence in Environmental Sustainability Award are on a mission to change that.
The team behind RCOS Theatres Circularity Plot, from Corporate Services and Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH), have diverted over 2.7 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill to save 4.3 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This has led to a reduction in portering time and contamination.
“The great thing about this team is they kept advocating and worked collaboratively,” says Adrianna Scotti-Roberts, Head of Corporate Support Services.
“[They] ended up creating a valuable recycling stream that could not just be recycled but could enter the circular economy.”
The SESLHD Recruitment Team have won our ‘Team of the Year’ award, for reducing the end-to-end recruitment timeframes from more than 90 days, to an average of 38 days.
“I’d like to thank the Chief Executive and Director of People and Culture who put faith and confidence in us, investing in this new operating structure which has helped us achieve this fantastic result,” says Kelly Crawford, Head of Workforce Operations.
“This allows for more time for care and reduces the administrative burden on frontline clinicians and hiring managers.”
Senior physiotherapist, Christopher Legg is the winner of our CORE Values in Action. Chris works in the physiotherapy-led surgical clinics at POWH.
Chris encourages shared decision-making and practises patient-centred care, and leverages contemporary, innovative models of care. Chris focuses on education and support of junior staff and implementing improved service models.
“I nominated Chris because he’s such an authentic, caring and genuine clinician,” says Daniel Treacy, Head of Physiotherapy at POWH.
“Chris puts the patient at the centre of everything he does. Patients have come to him with chronic pain and really had their lives turned around after seeing him.”
