The Easter Bunny burrows through the wards in South East Sydney

Bellies were filled to the brim with chocolate and staff were all smiles thanks to the generosity of a number of organisations, which donated chocolate eggs and bunnies to the devoted staff working on the frontline over the Easter long weekend.

Jennie Barry, General Manager and Karen Tuqiri,Director of Nursing, made a guest appearance at Prince of Wales Hospital on Saturday 11 April 2020, delivering treats between the hours of 10pm and 12am so that when the clock struck midnight on Easter Sunday staff were treated to a sweet surprise.

Donations from Club Central Menai and Hurstville and Fardoulis Chocolates were enjoyed by staff over at Sutherland and St George hospitals and those at Garrawarra enjoyed a visit by the Easter Bunny.

A couple of spectacular eggs, donated to Sutherland Hospital by Tradies Gymea, were also up for grabs in a raffle for staff who had their flu shot. Congratulations to Kathryn Howie who took away the first prize – a whopping 20kg egg, and to Michael Dethan who won the second prize, an 8kg egg.

David Jones and Haigh’s Chocolates delivered 150 eggs to Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital and goodies donated by Ferrero Rocher went down a treat with staff at the Royal Hospital for Women. Meanwhile, Calvary Health Care Kogarah held a good old-fashioned Easter egg guessing competition thanks to Lindt.

Tobi Wilson, Chief Executive at SESLHD, graciously thanked the dedicated teams working over the long weekend: “Easter is a very busy time, and this year even more so. Please look after yourselves as you continue to provide quality healthcare to our communities.

"Many staff, such as the large cohort of medical registrars and junior medical officers at St George Hospital, volunteered to work extra hours over the Easter period. Your dedication is greatly appreciated.”
