Healthy Ageing in the district
SESLHD’s Older Person’s Mental Health Service aims to provide the best possible available care for people over 65 or Aboriginal people over 50 who are at risk of experiencing mental health problems.
The specialist clinical multidisciplinary team collaborates with families and carers, GPs and other key services and supports in our District. The service provides mental health assessment, rehabilitation programs, and an Inpatient Unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Another initiative of the Older Person’s Mental Health Service is the SESLHD Older Persons Mental Health Service Annual Forum – this year the event is being held at The Juniors in Kingsford on 23 October.
Approximately 500 seniors are expected to attend the free forum to learn about practical strategies on such as managing anxiety and low mood, and how to balance self-care with caregiving responsibilities later in life.
"There are plenty of steps we can all take to live more joyously as we age. Our collective hope is...to inspire our fellow older Australians to thrive as part of ageing,” said Professor Henry Brodaty, co-director of the UNSW Sydney’s Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing and one of the healthy ageing experts speaking at this year’s forum.
