New MRI facility opens at Sutherland Hospital

Sutherland Hospital’s new MRI service is officially open!

On Monday 13 February, Sutherland Hospital staff gathered to open the state-of-the-art MRI facility, delivered as part of the Sutherland Hospital Operating Theatre Complex redevelopment.

The opening marks first time Sutherland Hospital, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, has had its own dedicated MRI facility.

Vicki Weeden, General Manager, Sutherland Hospital said having an MRI service on-site is a milestone for the hospital.

“Having an MRI service at Sutherland Hospital will deliver faster care to our inpatients as fewer will need to be transferred to St George Hospital or private providers for their scans.”

Progress on the redevelopment is ongoing, with the new Clinical Sterilising Services Department opening earlier this month. Operational commissioning activities have also begun for the new build Operating Theatres which will soon be ready to welcome patients.
