SESLHD staff raise record funds participating in the City2Surf
The annual City2Surf has been run and won, with staff from South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) participating in many different ways on the day.
The SESLHD Disaster Management Unit provided a Health Response Team, which included specialists from across the district.
These included: Dr Max Raos, Staff Specialist, The Sutherland Hospital; Danielle Newman, Nursing Unit Manager, Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital; Dr Paul Gilhooly, Registrar, St George Hospital; Ben Crook, Clinical Nurse Educator, The Sutherland Hospital; Katie Jung, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Prince of Wales Hospital; Felicity Pilon, Registered Nurse, St George Hospital; Colin Curran, Volunteer Bus Driver, The Sutherland Hospital and Anthony Cook, Disaster Manager, SESLHD.
Each member of the team had previously attended a one-day Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) course. Max Raos, Medical Team Leader, said excellent teamwork and communication from staff working under pressure was displayed on the day.
“It was a pleasure to work with these skilled clinicians from different emergency departments across SESLHD,” Mr Raos said.
A record 52 staff members also participated in the run through the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation’s Heartbreakers team, including Tobi Wilson, Chief Executive, SESLHD, who was the second fastest male in the team, just behind fellow Heartbreaker Alan Kennedy. Emma Latham finished first for the women, followed by Susan MacCullum, who came in second place.
The team raised $23,000 in total for the district’s mental health services and hope to round it off to $30,000 by hosting a Heartbreakers trivia evening on Friday, 13 September at the Clovelly Bowling Club.
