Sutherland Hospital fundraising gala a success

The Inaugural Sutherland Hospital Fundraising Gala has been hailed a success, raising approximately $1.05 million for the hospital.

“We are so grateful to everyone who attended and donated to our hospital,” said Vicki Weeden, General Manager, Sutherland Hospital.

“Sutherland Hospital has an incredibly generous and supportive community and this event highlighted that community spirit. Ninety seven per cent of the Sutherland Shire community will spend at least one night at the hospital in their lifetime and the community have always been our biggest supporters.”

“I would like to thank Naomi Dean and Lisa Black for organising the event and thank everyone for their generous donations and support,” Ms Weeden added.

At the event, past patient Marko Franovic donated $1 million to the hospital. He spoke about his miraculous recovery from COVID-19 thanks to the skill and expertise of the ICU staff at Sutherland Hospital.  His incredible story emphasised the ongoing need for research and education in medicine and the room expressed their appreciation for Mr Franovic by giving him a standing ovation.

Money raised at the event will go towards a new research and education centre and expanding the Oncology Day Clinic.

Auction items had the room buzzing with excitement, with items such as Sharks and Dragons game day experiences, Ping golf clubs, Indigenous artworks and Tim Tszyu framed gloves up for grabs. Silent Auction items included a tandem skydive, pamper packages and concert tickets.

Master of Ceremonies Mel McLaughlin from 7 News kept attendees engaged throughout the night, encouraging donations and guests were entertained thanks to musician Joe Moore, comedian Sam Taunton and DJ Andrew Nielsen.

Congratulations to the lucky winner of the raffle, who won dinner and a night’s accommodation at Crowne Towers Sydney in a deluxe king room.

A second major raffle was announced on the night; first prize is a Toyota Corolla Ascent Hatch, second prize is $5000 travel vouchers and third prize is the entire Gold Class theatre at Event Cinemas Miranda for a night for 48 guests, including popcorn and soft drinks. Tickets to this raffle will be available from Friday 1 July, 2022. For further information or to buy tickets contact SESLHD-EngageTSH@health.nsw.gov.au or phone 9540 7251.
