Interns and Residents

The Prince of Wales Hospital Prevocational Education and Training Program (Network 9) offers education and training experiences across a broad range of settings. Our Network consists of: Prince of Wales Hospital, Lismore Base Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

We understand and recognise the importance of dedicated support and supervision for our trainees to enable the transition from Medical Student to Intern and beyond.

Our prevocational education program includes weekly protected teaching and is mapped to the Australian Curriculum Framework. We aim to provide our trainees with appropriate skills and training, enabling them to provide high quality safe patient care and to develop professionally and pursue their chosen vocational training.

Our Prevocational program includes:

• Junior Medical Staff Mentor Program
• Protected weekly intern tutorial program
• 4 day extensive intern orientation program
• Protected weekly resident tutorial program
• Simulation training
• Procedural skills workshops

Engagement, Innovation and Improvement

The POWH Prevocational trainees are encouraged to be proactive and engage in various hospital programs beyond the standard education curriculum. This includes the opportunity ot participate in quality change/innovation improvement, doctor advocacy and wellbeing programs. We support our junior doctors to participate and have ownership of positive change activities within their hospital and in doing so, directly improve patient experience.
