How we can help you

If you are coming to hospital for a planned, elective medical or surgical procedure and require a general anaesthetic, we will organise a date and time for you to come to hospital. We will send you this date and time in a letter. This letter also includes other useful information to help you prepare for when you come to hospital.

On the day of your appointment you will come to our department to book in. We will go through the paperwork with you before showing you to our waiting room. A nurse will then come and talk to you.

For more information on coming into our hospital for surgery see information on our Perioperative Unit.

If you are having a planned elective surgery or procedure you will have receive an email or letter with instructions on what surgery you are having, the date you need to come to hospital and when to telephone the hospital. If there are any changes to your surgery date, the hospital will contact you. In the date is not suitable, please contact our Admission Department on 9382 3949.

If you are having a planned elective surgery or procedure you will have received an email or letter regarding your date of surgery and instructions on how to confirm your admission within 10 working days of receiving the letter. You will need to call our booking office on 9382 3409.

If you are having a planned elective procedure or surgery in the public hospital system you will be placed on a waiting list and given a priority category depending on the seriousness of your condition. Your surgeon will decide this. Sometimes it is necessary to delay booked surgery for people who come through our Emergency Department and need life saving surgery.

If you have questions about current waiting times and want to speak with someone you can call the Surgery Access Line on 1800 053 456.

You should discuss the cost of your surgery or procedure with the doctor before you come into hospital. If you have private health insurance, our Patient Liaison Officer can help you with this.
