Our clinic can help you if you are living in the community with a life-limiting or terminal illness. The clinic aims to help you and your family to ensure you are as comfortable as possible and have the best quality of life you can.
We can help with:
- managing your pain or symptoms
- your nutrition
- swallowing and communication
- mobility
- referrals to counsellors or spiritual/pastoral care.
Please speak to your specialist or GP to get a referral to our service.

Our clinic is held on Tuesdays from 8.00 am - 2.00 pm at the Prince of Wales Adult Outpatient Department, Level 2, Campus Centre Building, Prince of Wales Hospital. Phone Number is 9382 0400
You will first see Dr Rebecca Strut, our palliative care specialist doctor. You will also see other health professionals from our team.
You will need a referral letter from your local general practitioner (GP) or specialty doctor to use this service. Your doctor will need to submit this referral electronically via Healthlink. Your referral will include your medical history, relevant test results, X-ray results and what medicines you are currently taking.
Once we receive this referral and accept it we will send you a letter with your appointment details. We will also send this to your doctor. If we cannot make an appointment for you, we will send you a letter confirming that you are on the waiting list for the next available appointment. If you change your address and/or phone number, please call 02 9382 0400.
If you need to change or cancel your appointment or no longer require an appointment/be on the waitlist, please call 02 9382 0400.
Please make sure you bring:
- Your referral lettter
- Current Medicare or Veterans Affairs card
- Any Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card
- Recent X-rays or medical images and their reports
- Activities to keep you entertained while waiting, e.g. book, music player, crosswords.
When you come to our hospital for your appointment, you can check-in using our electronic check-in kiosks. These are located in our Adult Outpatient Department, Acute Services Building (Botany Street), High Street and Barker Street entrances.
We are teaching hospital and you may be asked to be involved in research or for a student to be present at your appointment. You have a right to say no. If you do so, this will not impact in any way on the services we will provide.
Please let us know if you need an interpreter before the date of your appointment. You can contact us telephoning the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 131 450. Equipment Loan Service
How we can help you
We offer equipment loans for up to three months to assist you at home and in the community. The cost is $50 for a 12-week loan period. Our available equipment includes items to help with walking, showering, and using the toilet safely, as well as cushions for those experiencing pain from prolonged sitting or lying down.
All equipment must be ordered and fitted by an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, or Registered Nurse.

Wednesday from 8am - 12pm
Closed daily from 12pm - 12.45pm
How to find us
The Edmund Blacket Building is the sandstone building located near Gate 6 off Avoca Street, Randwick, NSW 2032
(Building 5 on our campus map).
Residents of Randwick, Bayside, Waverly, and Woollahra are eligible for our equipment loan service. We also offer limited services to the eastern part of Sydney City.
We do not loan equipment to permanent residents of nursing homes or private hospitals. Clients moving out of the area or into a nursing home must notify the Equipment Loan Service and return the borrowed equipment.
To loan equipment, you must be assessed by a NSW Health Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, or Nursing staff member. The health professional will install the equipment in your home and educate you and your carers on its safe use.
To get a referral to an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, call our intake service at 02 9369 0400 and request a home assessment for equipment.
You are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged equipment beyond normal wear and tear. An invoice will be sent for the replacement cost of such items.

Our Transitional Aged Care Program (TACP) provides support and slow-stream reahabilitation to older people at home after a stay in hospital. The treating team consisting of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Dietetics, Speech Therapy and Community Aide aims to enhance your independence and support your goals to remain living safely at home.
TACP will create a care plan in consultation with you and:
- Support you in making decisions that affect your care
- Advocate for your needs and give you emotional support
- Create a discharge plan to establish long term support at home, and optimise your safety and independence
To receive this program, you must be approved by the Aged Care Assessment Team whilst you are still a patient in hospital, and live in the Botany or Randwick LGA.
Your treating team will discuss if TACP is the right program to support your discharge from hospital.

Our dementia nurses can visit you at home and give you information and advice on dementia and memory loss. They help your family understand how to best take care of someone with dementia or memory loss. They can also help you access services that will support you in your home.
Our dementia nurses work closely with your doctor, other health workers and other services that are helping you.
