The Centre is staffed with Endocrinologists, Credentialed Diabetes Nurse Educators, Accredited Practicing Dieticians and High Risk Foot Podiatrists.

Referrals are accepted for:
- Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
- Unstable Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Patients with complex Diabetes medical problems
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers (or history of Diabetic Foot Ulcers)
For all medical and high risk foot referrals please refer to either:

- Associate Professor Ann Poynten
The service does not have the capacity to accept referrals for:
- Uncomplicated, well controlled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Impaired Glucose Tolerance
- Roads & Maritime Service License Examinations
- Patients outside of Princes of Wales Hospital catchment (please refer to local diabetes service)
Please refer to private endocrinologists for patients requiring these services.

Urgent referrals
Urgent or immediate referrals are for:
- Newly diagnosed, suspected or unstable Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
- Severe Hyperglycaemia in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Severe Hypoglycaemia
- Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcers.
Priority 1 Referrals 1-2 Weeks
- Poorly controlled Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers
- Grade 3 or Higher Chronic Kidney Disease
- Recent Discharge from Hospital or Imminent Surgery or Chemotherapy
Priority 2 Referrals 6-12 Weeks
- Failure to respond to glucose lowering medications
- Diabetic patients with microvascular and macrovascular complications
- Previous Diabetic Foot Ulcers
- Type 1 Diabetes Review
- Preconception planning for women with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
