Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers

Going to hospital can sometimes be overwhelming.

The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers (AHLOs) are there to support you during your stay. They can help you speak to doctors and nurses, understand what is happening, and make sure you and your family are involved in making decisions about your care.

The AHLOs are also there to support you before and after your hospital stay with the admissions process and helping to make sure you have the support you need when you go home.

A big part of the work the AHLOs do is helping to educate and support SESLHD staff to provide the best possible, culturally sensitive healthcare to the community.

AHLO services are available in SESLHD at Prince of Wales, Sydney Sydney Eye, St George and Sutherland Hospitals.

Prince of Wales and Sydney Sydney Eye Hospitals.

AHLO services are provided for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families who are admitted to Prince of Wales and Sydney Hospitals.

To help ensure cultural safety at Prince of Wales hospital, the AHLO, with the help and support of her colleagues, was able to dedicate this beautiful space as the Barmbli Room where Aboriginal patients and families can gather.
