Virtual Health
What is virtual health?
Virtual Health is any interaction between patients and/or members of their care team, occurring remotely, using any form of communication or information technology.
Virtual Health can enable:
- Access to care from home or a more convenient location.
- Involvement of family/carers in appointments, wherever they are.
- Remote monitoring of patient health conditions from home.
- Greater opportunities for collaboration between clinical and non-clinical teams.
Advancements in technology have created opportunities for new and evolving virtual health services. Technologies that support the delivery of virtual health services include:
- Telehealth and videoconferencing platforms.
- Mobile health apps e.g. iPhone or android apps.
- Electronic health records and patient portals.
- Biomedical devices and wearables e.g. pulse oximeters.
- Artificial intelligence (AI) platforms e.g. data-driven clinical decision support tools.
