Driver Diagrams

A driver diagram represents the team’s current shared theories of the cause and effect in the system. It identifies the changes that are likely to contribute to the achievement of a project aim.

A driver diagram visually presents the relationship between the overall aim of the project, the primary drivers, secondary drivers and change ideas. 

Primary drivers are the most important influencers on the aim. There are generally between two to five primary drivers.

Secondary drivers influence the primary drivers and there may be several relating to one or more primary drivers.

The cause and effect diagram can be logically converted into a Driver Diagram. The headings can be reworded into primary drivers and the causes become the secondary drivers.
