At your Appointment
What to expect at your Sexual Health Appointment
- If you are attending Short Street for the first time you will need to register personal details with our reception staff
- You will then be asked to have a seat in the waiting area.
- If you need to go to the toilet before you are seen please inform reception as we may need to collect a sample of urine.
- Depending on your appointment a nurse, doctor or counsellor will call you in for your appointment
- We do not see partners together but will discuss issues together if required.
- You will be asked detailed questions about your sexual activity, drug use etc.
- Sometimes a genital examination may be necessary.
- Please remember that everything you tell us is confidential. The staff at Short Street are all experienced in sexual health, and are here to help you.
- We will give you some swabs and a urine jar, so that you can self-collect some specimens in the toilet. Should you require blood collection, a clinician will take your blood.
- Once your appointment ends you can make future appointments at reception, if required.
- You will receive a SMS in a week if all your results are clear or a phone call from a blocked/private number if there are results to discuss.
- Please let staff know if you have specific contact instructions. We will try to accommodate them if we can.
- If you have a Medicare Card and a GP referral, your appointment will be bulk billed and you do not have to pay.
- Many sexually transmissible infections can be treated on site. However, if you need an outside script normal dispensing fees at the pharmacy will apply
